Reflection on Subjects

  • Kinetic and Reactor Design

Basically KRD is one of the toughest subjects that I have ever learnt during my years of Chemical Engineering studies. KRD uses a lot of theories and definitions in the topics that I have learnt so far. .With this subject, I understand better on various type of reactor. Why different reactor suit for certain chemical phase. But, luckily, with the help of the first half semester lecturer, Dr. Suzanna, I manage to understand most of the topics. I am hoping that it will be the same with the next lecturer, Dr. Tazli. This subject makes realize that past subjects are very important as they are inter-related to each other.   So, I am hoping that I can do well to pass this subject with flying colours.

For the KRD up until week 13, I still think that this subject is very difficult. Even with doing the projects that applies the rules of KRD, I still find it very hard to understand this subject. I will work harder in order to survive this semester, hopefully.

  • Chemical Process Dynamic, Instrumentation and Control

CPDIC. For me, this is the toughest subject so far. It implemented a lot of ordinary differential equation concept. So, I need to recall what I have been learning for the past two years. That is quite impossible to do as I forgot everything at the end of every semester. We have to recap Laplace equation, ODE, and a lot of other mathematical techniques in order to understand this subject. Dr. Abbas is a very good lecturer. But most of the time I have some problem to focus in his class. I need some amount of time to absorb the thing that he taught during the lecture hour. Plus, with the help of my friend, I can understand some of the concept of CPDIC.So, wish me luck for CPDIC.

If KRD is tough, CPDIC is 10 times or more difficult than KRD. I cannot think any other subject that I have learnt so far that is more difficult than this. But, I think the second part of CPDIC is more understandable than the first part of it. So, hopefully with the second part will help me to improve my coursework marks of CPDIC.

  • Process Safety and Loss Prevention

If the other two subjects that I have mentioned before are hard-core subject, I find this subject is quite interesting. Despite a lot of lengthy equation and derivation, this subject is well taught by our lecturer, Dr. Dzulkarnain. We can analyse the potential hazard when we are dealing with the equipment or at the workplace. Besides good method teaching by Dr. dzul, we are also be given exercises in the class to improve the understanding on the topics that we are learning. So, hopefully this subject will boost my confidence to face other subject that are quite challenging.

In this semester, the only subject that I think can save my CGPA is PSLP. I’m not saying that PSLP is easy, but it is far less complicated than any other core subject of this semester. With the teaching method of Dr.Dzul that is simple and relax, we feel very secure with the subject. I hope the subject will not be as difficult as both subjects above. Haha.

Reflection On Group Project

  • Reflection On Board Game

First of all, our group named the board game as Into the Reactor’s World. Basically this game is built by using the concept of Snake and Ladder but with a lot of other alterations and addition to the original one. Our group combine the three subjects that we are learning this semester into the game. So, the player of this game can have a relaxing mode playing the game while also learning something new which is the 3 subjects. This board game can be categorized educational purpose board game on which the players can learn new things about chemical engineering knowledge. There are a lot of interesting things that I learnt throughout the process of designing the board game. For example I am improving the skill of designing and to think outside of the box on the concept of the board by improving the original one

  • Reflection of Questions Posed for KRD, CPDIC and PSLP on the Board Game

As it has been described before, we have made some alteration on the original rules of playing snake and Ladder. We are adding the concept of question cards for certain boxes on the board game. When the players step on the box that is specifically colour-coded, they need to answer the question that has different level of difficulties: Easy, Medium or Hard. So, the players can be tested on their knowledge on the chemical engineering mattes depending on their luck on getting which question that they received.

  • Contributions and Role to This Project

On the first group meeting, we were discussing the ideas and concept of the board game that we are going to design. Some of us giving a few ideas on what type of board game that we are going to use. So we finalize it with the snake and ladder board game. We include some modification on the board game by adding the flash card to make the board game more interesting.

We divided the task among us on the second meeting which me and Amirul(Cai) need to do the design of the board game while the others need to prepare some example questions for the flash card. We make a few improvement on the second meeting by adding a few concept and altering the original concept of the board game.

By the third meeting, we were focusing on the web designing task. We need to choose the suitable template of the website to be finalize before we are ready to post everything that are needed as been described. In this group, I am the recorder and scriber. Basically I record assignment, strategies, unresolved issues, data and also convenes group outside the class.

Reflection On Group Project 2

For the second project, I think it is quite challenging for me and my group mates as the project makes us to think out of the box to apply the rules of the subjects that we are taking for this semester. We need to brainstorm in order to achieve the required level of thinking that is needed for this.

  • Contributions and Role to This Project

My contribution for this second project is to design the type of reactor used. I have to refer to a lot of article and some books to get the sufficient knowledge to be presented as the outcome of the project. Thankfully, after a few weeks of work hard we managed to complete the project.

Suggestions

I think the area that needs some improvement is on the idea the true concept of the subjects that we are learning. For example on KRD, we can make the board game that can show us on how actually the reactor works. But due to the time constrain of the project, we cannot do this as the part of our project.
